Art Where I Least Expect It.
I mean, like, seriously.
This isn't really Creative Time-related, but I thought that those of you who enjoy their art in the outdoors might be interested. I just posted photos of Maya Lin's Peace Chapel on my blog,
Heart As Arena. The Peace Chapel was created in the woods near the campus of
Juniata College in my hometown of Huntingdon, PA. That's where the "least expected" part comes in. Huntingdon is deep in the sticks, and is very much
not an arts haven. It is, however, really beautiful country. A Juniata alum commissioned Lin to design a land sculpture on the old college farm. This is where we used to go to drink vodka and Kool-Aid when we were to young to do so. It's still an intoxicating experience.
Useless.
Here are some things I came across in print recently.
Useless, the most appropriately named arts-related magazine ever, has a nice interview with Creative Time curator Peter Eleey in their third issue. Two of my favorite art rags,
Modern Painters and
Art + Auction, feature Creative Time Artists in their November issues. MP has a piece written by
Haluk Akakçe about his current project for Creative Time in Vegas. In Art + Auction there's a big article on the heat source that
is CT alum
Marilyn Minter. Read.
Wall Flower.
Here's a shot of Jens Haaning
Arabic Joke looking lonely at the
NY Art Book Fair on Sunday afternoon. It was nice to be in the DIA building again. Or maybe it was aggravating. I'm not sure which.
You Really Should.
When I went to see
Charles de Meaux's installation of The 59th Minute was impossible not to think of the
Pierre Huyghe piece from the 2006 Biennial,
A Journey That Wasn't. When I read de Meaux's bio it turns out that he was, along with Huyghe, a founding member of
Anna Sanders Films. Sometimes I'm on it and I don't even know why.
